Class Descriptions

Little Coders – Intro to Coding: Tailored for early readers, this course helps students boost their computational thinking while having fun with friends! Beginners learn coding basics like Loops and Conditions. Returning students tackle new challenges, such as debugging. All students build exciting games, stories, and animated characters.

Grades K-2;

Fees $274 for 10 classes;

Hip Hop: Get your kids afternoon off to a great start with some music and fun! Hip Hop is a high energy type of dance, originating from funk and street dance. The classes focus on different stylized techniques, rhythm, and isolation.

Grades K-5;

Fees $235 for 10 classes;

English Enrichment for Achievers program: Our young scholars aspire to achieve more. We can help your child find their voice, build on their perspective, help form an opinion and allow them to express in words. Salient features include: Vocabulary enrichment and Creative writing (Informative, Narrative, Persuasive, Poetry)

Grades 3-5;

Fees $290 for 10 classes;

Day and dates Mon 3:55-4:55PM, starts 9/23 – ends 12/2 (No class Nov 11th)


 

Karate: Tue AM or Wed AM

Students will learn and practice Karate skills with punching bags, breaking boards, blocking drills, kicking targets and more! Karate-X has been teaching in the Puget Sound for 20 years, with a Martial Arts program specifically designed for preschool and elementary students. Belt rank testing is held at the end of each session, giving students goals to aim for and recognition of their accomplishments.

English Enrichment for Absorbent Minds: Early childhood education and development forms the foundation for future. We can help your child acquire English language and life skills to succeed through our activity-based learning. Salient features are vocabulary enrichment, speaking, listening and critical thinking, reading, and writing.

Grades K-2;

Fees $290 for 11 classes;

Scratch: Game Development: Unleash your creativity with Scratch, a fun drag-and-drop coding tool. Learn coding basics like loops and variables if you're new, or explore advanced concepts like functions and game physics if you're returning. Build exciting games, animations, and story projects, like the Greedy Birds!

Grades 3-5;

Fee: $300 for 11 classes;

All About Chess: Wed AM or Thurs PM:

In this chess program students will practice learning with games

against their peers, have a focused lesson and play fun variant chess games. In advanced classes, a simulated tournament will be organized. Any skill level is welcome.

Grades K-5;

Fees $175 for 10 classes;

Soccer (Indoor): Wed PM or Thurs PM

Total Control Soccer is built upon the belief that sports not only promote physical fitness but also instill essential life skills such as discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Our program is designed to cater to students of all skill levels, providing a supportive environment where they can learn and grow both on and off the field.

Fees $265 for 10 classes;

Grade 3-5: Day and dates: Wed 2:25-3:25PM, starts 09/25 – ends 12/4 (No class 11/27 due to Thanksgiving)

Spanish: Come and join us in a bilingual, multicultural education which opens doors and minds to the world. Lessons are constructed around five elements for elementary: Total Physical Response activities, songs, games, crafts and culture. Groups are organized by language level and age for better interaction. Beginners/Intermediate welcome!

Grades K-5 (K level students upon space availability);

Fees $331 for 10 classes;

Day and dates Wed 2:25-3:25 PM, Starts 10/9 - ends 12/18 (No class 11/27 due to Thanksgiving)


 

Bricks Across America: Let’s travel across the map together! In this program, students will work together to learn fun facts about each US state & territory. They will work with a partner to build one important item from each state’s identity out of LEGO® bricks. They will then present this to the class and by the end of the program, they will have a greater understanding of key aspects of each U.S State and Territory. Students will have a blast learning about culture & geography while expressing their creativity while building.

Grades 3-5;

Fundamental Engineering: Does your little learner love to tinker and create new things, or are they the kind of learner who likes to break things apart to see what’s inside? If so, they’re going to love Snapology’s Foundational Engineering: Machines and Contraptions program! This program gives your student the tools they need to understand mechanical movement and the importance of simple machines. They will see these moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines and contraptions, then use the models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates. Whether they are the creative-constructive type or prefer the inquisitive-deconstructive way of learning, this program is sure to spark their engineering interests!

Art by CreART: Wed PM or Fri PM

Embark on a journey into the realm of imagination this season with a range of exciting projects: from spooky silhouettes and 3D Picasso faces to clay monsters and Tim Burton inspired portraits. Explore the rich culture of Mexico, master figure drawing, and delve into the fundamentals of one-point perspective. Join us for a fun and educational artistic adventure!

Grades K-5;

Modern Dance: Children will be actively exposed to movements,

balance, coordination and fun. Each class will be a combination of

dance styles like Contemporary -Hip-Hop and Jazz. Students will

develop confidence and creativity while learning new choreography. Children will be learning how to do splits, backbend

bridge and pirouettes.

Grades K-2;

Science Club: Clara Barton’s first ever science club! Join us to learn about Density, Magnesium, evolution, chemical reaction, and much more!

Grades 3-5;

Fees $10 for 6 classes

Day and dates: Thurs 3:55 – 4:55pm, Oct 3, Oct 17, Oct 31, Nov 14, Dec 5, Dec 19


 

Choir: Join the bobcat choir and sing with your friends every Wednesday morning. We will learn new music and songs, improve our singing technique, and have fun singing as an ensemble. Choir is a free enrichment program sponsored by the PTSA, is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Clara Barton and is taught by music teacher Mrs. Torrey.

Grades 3-5; Free class sponsored by Clara Barton PTSA. Suggested donation $10

How to Sign Up

  1. You must have an account set up at clarabartonptsa.org in order to register for classes.
  2. After creating an account, click "My Account" then "My Forms" in the top Menu Bar.
  3. Make sure all "Family Information" and "Directory & Publish Preferences" are filled out and have a green check mark
  4. The registration form is called "Fall 2024 Before and After School Classes"

 

 

The form will only show up starting at 10 am on September 13th, 2024

  



Scholarships

  • Financial need-based scholarships may be available upon request. Please email school counselor, Megan Martinson at mmartinson@lwsd.org.
  • All student scholarship requests will be made directly to the school counselor, who will determine which students qualify.
  • By request, one Before or After School Enrichment Class per scholarship eligible student per enrichment semester may be sponsored as the Before/After School Classes budget allows.
  • A maximum of 1 spot per 10 registration spots available for enrichment classes may be held back for scholarship students.
  • You can also save by volunteering as a chaperone for all 10 sessions. This is first come first serve. For details reach out to enrichment@clarabartonptsa.org


Important Notes

  1. You must have an PTSA login (available for free) on our website in order to register.
  2. Registration sells out FAST, so be prepared to commit and sign up as soon as possible for the greatest access to courses.
  3. We strongly recommend you consider testing out the system and becoming familiar with it before registration opens.
  4. You'll find the registration link, when it opens under the "My Account" section of our website, but you will need to complete all the directory information first.
  5. Registration will open on Friday, September 13th at 10 am
  6. All parents/guardians are required to read and abide by the Policies and Procedures.
  7. All parents/guardians must sign and complete the Student Release and Liability Wavier Form and have their child bring this to their first class. If they are in multiple classes we need one for each.
  8. All classes are in person.
  9. Morning classes are from 8:10-9:10. Afternoon classes are from 3:55-4:55. Wednesday afternoon classes are from 2:25-3:25.
  10. Most classes run 10 weeks.  Exceptions are noted in the class description.
  11. Each class session requires 1 parent chaperone.  Volunteer to chaperone all 10 weeks and you will receive a tuition refund at the end of the 10 week session.  This is first come first serve. For details reach out to enrichment@clarabartonptsa.org
  12. In case a class does not have a full time chaperone for all classes, we request every participating family to sign up to chaperone for at least one class.
